Bromyard 10 pts Clee Hill 20 pts
CENTRE Richard Wozencroft gave a man-of-the-match display as Clee Hill climbed to second place in Midlands Four West (North).
Hill skipper Matt Bowen was thrilled with the display from the veteran after the visitors picked up a valuable success last Saturday in their push for the second promotion place.
“We have a new, young lad who is playing at fly-half so we switched Richard to the centre and he gave a magnificent display.
“We have now moved up to second place and above Cleobury Mortimer, whose match was abandoned. We are pleased to be in the top two but we can’t get carried away because Cleobury have played one match less than us.”
The match was played in heavy conditions at Bromyard’s Clive Richards Sports Ground and was evenly poised at 10-10 at the interval.
Rob Hughes crashed over for Hill’s opening try and Luke Bowen crossed for the visitors’ other touchdown in the first half.
But Hill took a grip on the derby after the break and were rewarded when Robbie Jordan dabbed the ball down for a push-over try.
Winger George Evans wrapped up Hill’s triumph with the final score of the match.
Matt Bowen said: “I think we were pretty fortunate with the weather because we didn’t need to have any stoppages in play.
“The pitch was heavy and wet but we managed to get through the game.”
