THERE were some outstanding performances as Ludlow Swimming Club took top spot in the final round of the National Arena League.

Head coach Adam Fear was among Ludlow’s leading lights as they shone in the event at Redditch Swimming Pool.

The impressive Jack Corston managed personal best times in the 100m freestyle and backstroke.

Kieran Martin, Jack Corston and Jordan Angel returned some excellent times in the boys’ cannon relay team.

And, at the end of the evening, Eddie Thomas edged the the team closer to victory before Christopher Bayliss and Fear took to the water to seal a comfortable first-place finish for the club.

"I am very proud of the swimmers and especially their attitude towards our performance and with the support from all friends and family we have achieved our best result,” he said.

“All of the swimmers left the building knowing they have achieved as much as they could and are all looking forwards to future competitions.”

Ludlow Swimming Club are now organising a friendly gala at the end of March.

Fear added: “We want to give our younger swimmers a chance to compete with our more experienced swimmers and swimmers from other clubs so as the club are ready to compete in the first round of the Mercian League at the beginning of May.”

Ludlow’s evening at Redditch started superbly, with Heulwen Gilbert and Fear bringing home the first points of the night in the open 200m individual medley.

The club’s younger swimmers such as Oliver Morgan, Peirce Bowsher and Oliver Smith-Davies did well in the relays.

Fear said: “The points’ race started to get close with nail-biting performances all the way until the end of the night.

“That was when the open freestyle cannon, consisting of six swimmers for both male and female, became more and more vital to add to the points. “

He said the girls’ performances were excellent with younger swimmers like Rebecca Morgan swimming well in the open category. For more details about Ludlow Swimming Club, go to: ludlowsc.org.uk
