STALWART Edna Spanner will become the first female president in Ludlow Golf Club's125-year history.

Edna was elected to the post at the club's annual general meeting on her 80th birthday.

She will take up office on January 1 2014 in the club’s 125th anniversary year.

Edna will be driving-in with the new club officers on New Year’s Day and claiming her place in the club history books.

Edna has enjoyed considerable success throughout her golfing career and is near the top of the leaderboard on a regular basis.

Her most recent success was the runner-up spot, with son Colin, in the club’s Christmas poultry competition.

She took up the sport of golf almost 40 years ago following in the footsteps of her husband Roy and son Colin.

After many years spent on the committee, Edna became the ladies' captain in 1993.

She has since given her time to the club serving on the ladies committee in a host of roles.

Edna is the first woman to take up a role that has been held by men since Ludlow Golf Club was founded in 1889.
