CROFT Ambrey Running Club trio Gary Gunner, Tom Davies and Guy Whitmarsh clinched bronze medals in the British Masters Athletic Federation Cross Country Relays.

The trio were in superb form as Croft Ambrey took part, for the first time, in the over-65 team section of the prestigious BMAF relays.

Croft lay in fourth, at the first changeover, a couple of yards behind Bedford AC, with Oxford City in the lead, and Rotherham, second.

Davies quickly overhauled the Bedford runner on the second leg to give Croft hopes of a silver medal.

Despite Gunner’s best efforts on the third-and-final leg, he couldn’t shoot down the Rotherham athlete before the finishing line.

Moorways Stadium in Derby hosted the races and the event involved two laps of approximately one mile for each runner.

Whitmarsh said: "A third-placed finish in a national competition was an excellent achievement for a small club. But we can count amongst our members a Welsh international cross-country runner and two triathletes who have represented Great Britain this year."
