Ludlow co-driver Keaton Williams triumphs in South Shropshire-based Romerlite Novice Rally
LUDLOW co-driver Keaton Williams has triumphed in the South Shropshire-based Romerlite Novice Rally.
It was Williams’ best-ever result and he teamed up with driver Mike Hart to achieve a deserved and popular 24-second success.
The duo’s VW Golf GTI experienced a loose wheel, which they overcame.
Williams was apprehensive in only his second event of the year and guided the VW Golf GTI into an eight-second first-half lead.
Another Ludlow member, codriver Dan Petrie from Leominster, took the award for the top Junior Navigator. He was sixth in Ben Crump’s BMW.
The father-and-son team Anthony and Connor Deignan were seventh in the Angel Bank and Cleobury Garage-sponsored Peugeot 206.
Connor is only 15 years old and won the award for the youngest finisher on the event.
Nick Skidmore and Chris Jones, in a Ford Escort Mexico, were eighth, just 36 seconds adrift.
Sam Peters rounded off a good night for Ludlow Castle Motor Club crews by bringing his Proton Satria GTI home in 12th place.
Meanwhile, a gearbox problem ended Jim Jones and Simon Atkinson’s bid at the Regency Stages near Shepton Mallet.
Their day, in the Overton Service Station-supported Skoda Fabia, came to a halt towards the end of Stage One.
Ludlow Castle Motor Club’s next meeting is on November 13 at the Ludlow Brewery, starting at 8pm.
