AFC Ludlow seal superb 1-0 home win over Market Drayton Town in TJ Vickers Shropshire FA Premier Cup
AFC Ludlow 1 Market Drayton Town 0
AFC LUDLOW boss Dave Cooper saluted his heroes after humbling higher-graded Market Drayton Town last night in the TJ Vickers Shropshire FA Premier Cup.
Jamie Marsh hit the decisive goal for Cooper’s men five minutes before the break in a first-round clash watched by a bumper crowd at the Showtime Stadium.
Ludlow will now host another higher-graded side, Ellesmere Rangers, in the second round.
“That’s the best performance I have ever seen from an AFC Ludlow team and everyone who played, did brilliantly,” Cooper told the Advertiser.
“Market Drayton are the highest-ranked team in Shropshire apart from Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford United.
“It’s a bit like Brimfield FC beating Westfields in the Herefordshire competition.”
Cooper had a quiet night in goal for the hosts and felt Ludlow could have been clear at the interval.
“We could have been 4-0 ahead at half time and that would not have flattered us,” said Cooper.
“We had a goal disallowed and that was really harsh.”
Marsh bagged Ludlow’s goal from close range after Luke Hicks had cut back Kieran Dovey’s corner.
Cooper added: “We had our biggest crowd of the season - 132 people came through the gate – and it was a great night for us.”
