CHURCH Stretton joint-manager Joe Leask praised skipper Sam Bowen after tempers flared in the closing minutes of this Mercian League Premier Division match.
First-half goals from Max Jarrold and newcomer Tom Hancock had sealed the points for Stretton long before the melee.
“There were a few things which went on during the game and there was a melee right at the end,” said Leask.
“But our captain Sam Bowen showed a lot of restraint and kept calm and did not get involved. His attitude was very mature.”
Goalkeeper Jamie Williams pulled off two great saves in the second-half to make sure the hosts finished with a clean sheet.
Stretton are not in action this weekend because joint-manager Adam Spellman is having his stag weekend.
The stag party will be taking in Chester Races before heading for drinks in Liverpool.
Leask added: “Oakengates were second in the league before last weekend’s match.
We are now just six points off top spot. We’re showing signs of improvement.”
