Sam Pain sets new course record at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club
SAM Pain has capped a fairytale month by setting a new course record at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club.
He shot an outstanding 66 gross to claim a new course record on the Foxes Run and Deer Park combination.
Pain is poised to turn professional and Cleobury’s men’s September medal might have been his last competition as an amateur.
“This has been the best golfing month of my life - to become the club champion and set a course record in four weeks is a fairytale for me,” he said.
Early starter Harvey Dodd shot a 68 to win Division Two, while Adam Winnell topped Division One, with a 73 gross, nett 62.
Mark Fish shot a nett 63 before four bogeys in his last five holes pushed him into a spot behind Winnell.
Pain added: “It is ironic that my PGA application forms have just come through the post and, if it is my last competition as an amateur, it’s great to go out on top.”
