Church Stretton co-driver Phil Clarke wins inaugural Roger Albert Clark Historic Rally Championship
CHURCH Stretton co-driver Phil Clarke is celebrating after winning the inaugural Roger Albert Clark Historic Rally Championship.
Clarke teamed up with Northern Ireland’s Martin McCormack to seal the championship title with one round remaining.
The duo romped to a 42-second victory in The Red Kite Stages Rally in Llandovery, to record their fourth successive series’ win.
McCormack’s historic Ford Escort also defeated all the modern four-wheel drive cars as the pair tasted overall victory in the event.
Clarke, a Ludlow Castle Motor Club member, and McCormack headed into the first service halt with a 12-second lead despite a change of rear tyres after just 8.5 miles.
Clarke and McCormack increased their advantage to 30 seconds after the third special stage in Caio Forest, south of Llandovery.
The duo recorded a clean sweep in the afternoon, setting the fastest time on every stage to take top spot from Jason Pritchard and co-driver Dale Furniss.
