Tenbury's Alex Summers secures two wins at Doune in MSA British Hill Climb Championship
DRIVER Alex Summers raced to two superb wins at Doune and can finish fourth in the MSA British Hill Climb Championship.
The 22-year-old from Tenbury Wells won both run-offs, triumphed in his class and set the fastest time of the day in Sunday’s event in Scotland.
Summers’ previous run-off victory had been in 2011 - and he is now battling with Orleton’s Roger Moran for a fourthplace finish overall.
“I won a run-off at Shelsley Walsh in 2011 and it has been more than two years since then, so it’s nice to be back,” said Summers.
“The winning is the prize for a culmination of a lot of hard work and development.”
Last year, Summers finished 11th in the championship as the family developed the engine.
Summers said:“I can finish fourth overall in the championship but I am guaranteed at least fifth place.
“I got a class record and two second places in the previous event at Prescott.”
Summers added: “To make the leap is very nice and I am battling for fourth with Roger Moran heading into the last race of the series.”
In fact, the whole Summers family will be competing at Loton Park, near Shrewsbury, in the final round on Sunday, September 29.
Orleton’s Scott Moran has won the title ahead of the last round.
Scott has clinched the title four times - he had previously won the crown in 2011, 2009 and 2008.
Scott finished runner-up to Menith Wood’s Trevor Willis 12 months ago.
Results from Doune: Round 31: 1: Alex Summers 40.78, 2 Trevor Willis 41.59, 3 Scott Moran 42.91, 5 Roger Moran 43.92.
Round 32: 1 Alex Summers 42.30, 2 Trevor Willis 43.54, 4 Roger Moran 44.26, 6 Scott Moran 45.73.
