Barbara Griffiths, from Orleton, celebrates hat-trick at Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club’s finals day
BARBARA Griffiths recorded a memorable hat-trick at Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club’s finals day.
Barbara, from Orleton, reached three finals - and was triumphant on each occasion.
Ashley Edwards, 24, set a new club record for having claimed his fifth success in the men’s singles, defeating Cyril Wait 21-9.
And it was also a successful day for the Allen family, with Jim and Lynne bagging a total of three trophies.
But finals day belonged to Barbara, who picked up her first trophy in the John Collett triples.
She partnered Howard Turberfield and Mike Owen to a 23-10 victory over Dorothy Crew, Bill Wheatley and Mike Mallett.
Barbara then teamed up with Cyril Wait to scoop the Albert Duval Pairs Cup after an 11-7 success over 15-year-old Adam Walker and Helen Skinner.
And Barbara joined forces with Helen Skinner and Doug Smurthwaite to defeat Cyril Wait, Ena Sparey and Jill Turberfield, 7-6, in the Cecil O’Boyle Plate.
Lynne car ried off the prestigious Arthur Edwards singles and was crowned club champion after defeating Jill Turberfield 21-17.
Lynne’s husband, Jim, drew two shots to take the Millennium Plate title from Rob Smith after an epic battle.
Jim and Lynne teamed up to defeat Karen Tandler and Doug Turner, 24-20, in the Tandler Pairs.
Josie Ward and Mike Mallett held off a spirited comeback from Dave Evans and Liz Smurthwaite to win the Barnett Bowl 14-11.
Club chairman Jennie Cole had a walkover in the ladies’ singles as her opponent was not able to play on the day.
