FORMER Wellington skipper Dale Withers has rejoined Tenbury United for their new era in Herefordshire football.

Withers had a short spell at United at the beginning of last term before returning to Herefordshire outfit Wellington to play in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

The Leominster lad should be a major boost for United who open their Herefordshire League Division One campaign this Saturday.

United host Kingstone Rovers in their Herefordshire League curtain-raiser at Palmer’s Meadow.

“I am quite hopeful about the season ahead,” said jointmanager Aaron Mor ris, a former Wellington defender.

“I am hoping we can get a good start.

“Nicky Stocker and I have a bit of a headache picking the team because we have a large squad.”

Withers will be playing in central midfield and Mike Foster, who is cur rently injured, is also back. Stocker made his maiden appearance in goal in United’s final warm-up match - a 3-1 defeat at Westfields Reserves.

Robbie Farrar put United a 1-0 ahead at the interval but Westfields hit back in the second-half.

United have made the switch to Herefordshire football after struggling to field a team in the West Midlands League Division Two last season.

Morris added: “We have a lot of very attacking players and midfielders and we should score goals.”
