Ludlow Golf Club lift Shropshire and Herefordshire Golf Union’s coveted Cognac Trophy
LUDLOW Golf Club have tasted sweet success after lifting Shropshire and Herefordshire Golf Union’s coveted Cognac Trophy.
Nigel Griffiths, club champion Ollie Lewis, nett club champion Tris Clare and junior Mark Bull teamed up to win the title during the union’s centenary year.
It was Griffiths’ second success in the competition - he was a member of the Ludlow team which won the maiden Cognac Trophy in 1994.
The major producers of Cognac donate bottles of liquor each year to the winners - so the competition is always keenly played for.
Club captain Russell Simm presented the trophy to the Ludlow team in front of a packed house on John Cox’s president’s night.
Captains from golf clubs in the union select a team of four which must include a junior to take part in the Shotgun AmAm competition.
The Ludlow team triumphed with 88 stableford points, two shots better than the rest of the field.
