Brimfield Fooball Club draw 2-2 at Kingstone Rovers in Herefordshire Football League Division One opener
BRIMFIELD FC opened their campaign with a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Kingstone Rovers in Herefordshire League Division One.
George Piper and Chris Breakwell scored for Duncan Morris’ newly-formed Brimfield side who led twice in the match.
“We had no substitutes and we were missing five key players so the draw was a credit to those who gave their all,” said boss Morris.
Orleton Colts romped to a 5-0 home win over Ewyas Harold Reserves after goals from Will Caswell, Shane Jennings, Mike Shilcock, Stephen Swan and Martyn Jones.
Danny Gower scored five goals in Woofferton’s emphatic 8-2 home win over Wellington Colts, also in Division One. Dave Humphreys, Simon Bradley and Paul Nash also netted.
Toby Gittens netted in Tenbury Colts’ 6-1 loss against Orleton Colts Reserves, while Leintwardine Colts’ scheduled Division Three fixture was scrapped because Burghill have withdrawn from the league.
Joint-manager Joe Leask will have to tinker with his side after Church Stretton Town drew 2-2 at home to Allscott in the Mercian League Premier Division.
Ashley Wells, who scored against Allscott, will be joining West Midlands League Premier Division outfit Shawbury. Defensive duo Matt Newton (knee ligaments) and Paul Smith (foot) are on the injury-list.
“We have lost three out of our back four so we’ll need to have a re-think about the composition of the side,” admitted Leask.
Max Jarrold and Wells scored for Stretton, who missed a host of chances and led twice against Allscott.
Striker Jack Jones bagged a brace in Bishops Castle Town’s 2-1 win over Hanwood United Reserves in Division One.
“Jack has come back from two knee operations and has really made his mark,” said Castle joint-manager Andrew Green.
However, centre-back Dan Dawson picked up an injury for Castle.
Ludlow Town Colts fought back from 3-0 down at Donnington Community Sports in a 3-2 defeat in Division Two.
Kieron Dovey and Martin Smith scored for Ludlow, but they paid the price for a poor first-half showing.
Newcastle are unbeaten in Mid Wales League South after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Presteigne Reserves.
Craig Mor ris (2) and Jamie Blythe were on target for Newcastle while Duanne Anning hit a hat-trick for 10-man Presteigne.
Man-of-the-match Niall Thomas scored twice in Norbury’s 3-3 opening-day home draw against Charles Darwin in Division One of the Shrewsbury Sunday League.
Wayne Griffiths thought he had secured victory for Norbury with a stunning volley but the visitors snatched a point.
Craig Harris made a fine debut for Norbury. There was disappointment for Roebuck who lost 1-0 at Burghill Rangers in the Herefordshire Sunday League Premier Division.
