Stefan Anthony handed goalkeeper's shirt for Brimfield Football Club's maiden campaign in Herefordshire League Division One
STEFAN Anthony has been handed the goalkeeper’s jersey for Brimfield FC’s maiden campaign in Herefordshire League Division One.
Anthony has taken over the role from last season’s goalkeeper, Jamie Vickery, now the assistant manager of Ludlow Town Colts.
Brimfield, who were known as Woofferton Colts last term, travel to Kingstone Rovers for their Division One bow this Saturday.
“I am very much looking forward to the season in Herefordshire League Division One,” said Brimfield boss Duncan Morris.
“I am looking ahead to the local derbies against Orleton Colts, Tenbury Town and Woofferton - there’s always added spice in these games.
“I haven't managed to bolster the team yet with any new signings but I have plans to sign players in September and one is a promising Slovakian lad.”
Morris guided Woofferton Colts to promotion from Division Two last season - and then made a big decision to change the team’s identity.
“Woofferton’s first team are in Division One and the rules state that no two teams from same club are allowed to play in same division,”
“I would have preferred us to continue playing under Woofferton FC but we would not have been allowed to take up our promotion.
“To play in Division One, I took the decision to start up as Brimfield FC.
“We had worked our way up through the divisions over the past couple of seasons.”
Mor ris said he would be pleased with a solid debut season. “I would be elated to finish mid-table and to finish higher than that would be a bonus,” he said.
Brimfield FC are keen to strengthen their team and attract a new sponsor. For details, call Duncan Morris on 07890 844418.
