Woodstock Cricket Company South Shropshire Twenty20 League need a new team to join competition
ORGANISER Matt Porter is looking for a 10th team from the area to join next season’s Woodstock Cricket Company South Shropshire Twenty 20 League.
The Ludlow Cricket Club member is confident that all teams who took part this summer will be returning for another tilt at the title.
“I will be working hard in the winter to see whether an additional 10th team from the Ludlow or surrounding area will join the league,” he said.
There are also plans for an expanded competition next season - and Porter is hoping an Eastern section will be officially launched.
“Ludlow have been in talks with Broseley Cricket Club about them running an Eastern League,” said Porter.
“We have started a trial for 2013 with Broseley, Madeley and Worfield taking part.
“The plan for 2014 is to expand this to five with two additional teams from that section coming in.”
He added that the winner of each section would then play-off in a grand final.
Ludlow retained the Western section title, recording a 35-run win over former champions Cleobury Mortimer.
Ludlow, captained by Sam Edwards, posted 161-5 and then dismissed Cleobury for 126 in the final.
Porter thanked all those who helped during the season, particularly Phil Parker who scored every game, Carmen Parker for running the bar, Ludlow chairman Willie Moore for setting up the ground, Clee Hill’s Mark Har rington who umpired the final and John Newsome of Woodstock Cricket Company, who continues to support the league and presented the awards.
Award winners for 2013: Leading batsman and bowler: Bryn Simmons (Ludlow) who finished with 228 runs and figures of 7-39.
Best fielder: Ryan Lockley (Ludlow) who finished with nine victims.
Man-of-the-match in the final: Ryan Lockley (Ludlow) for his quick-fire 36, two stumpings and a catch.
