Newcastle Football Club boss John Goodridge admits it’s nice to concentrate on football not off-the-field issues
NEWCASTLE boss John Goodridge admits it’s nice to concentrate on football - after a traumatic pre-season.
The villagers won a battle at Wembley against the Shropshire FA who wanted the club to leave the Welsh pyramid and compete in the Mercian League.
“Common-sense prevailed and we can thank chairman Edward Whately and secretary Brian Evans who travelled to the FA headquarters to plead our case,” said Goodridge.
The villagers open their Mid Wales League South campaign at home to Llandrindod Wells Reserves this Saturday. Newcastle then travel to Radnor Valley in the league next Tuesday.
Newcastle have profited from Bucknell’s demise, with Dave Jones, Simon Oakley, Wayne Griffiths and Gary Davies all signing up.
Former Knighton Town man Jamie Blythe has also joined Newcastle which should give Goodridge’s men more strength and depth.
Goodridge said: “We have enjoyed a successful pre-season with wins against Kerry, Orleton and Leintwardine Colts.
“Thankfully, we have managed to retain all of last season’s squad and we have attracted some excellent players.”
