Croft Ambrey's Suzanne Turvey wins Herefordshire Summer Off Road League race at Shobdon
CROFT Ambrey Running Club’s Suzanne Turvey won the final women’s race of the season in the 2013 Herefordshire Summer Off Road League.
It was reigning champion Turvey’s first outing of the season and she defeated Wye Valley’s Becki Davies, who was second and secured the overall women’s title.
Croft Ambrey dominated the major placings with team captain Sue Davies finishing in third with Gemma Mallett and Irina Dale following on behind.
Turvey’s 26th place overall was key in earning Croft Ambrey the team win on the night.
She was backed up by a best-ever fourth place for Mark Lamonby, another promising display by Andrew Davies, who finished sixth, and triathlete Simon Norwood in seventh.
Croft Ambrey’s ‘B’ team completed a successful evening for the club by finishing as third team thanks to solid runs from Dave Rouse, Glyn Williams and Stuart Austin in 13th, 16th and 17th places respectively, backed up by Sue Davies, 38th.
Ambrey’s Gary Gunner was the overall winner in the veteran 65 section, while team-mate Sue Davies was second female overall and Mallett, third.
Croft Ambrey’s first team were second in the overall team event, with the ‘B’ team coming fourth.
Wye Valley Runners completed a fine clean sweep in the individual and team titles in the 2013 Herefordshire Summer Off Road League.
Croft Ambrey Running Club hosted the event at Shobdon.
The race, the fourth of the season, followed a five-and-a-quarter mile, two-lap course in dry and firm conditions with the route containing a number of short, sharp climbs and twisting turns which upset the rhythm of running.
