Tenbury Town 4 Orleton Colts Res 0

IT keeps on getting better for Tenbury Town who are on the brink of their maiden promotion from Herefordshire League Division Three.

Club spokesman Carl Lambert admits the champagne is on ice after table-topping Town disposed of local rivals Orleton Colts Reserves at Palmer’s Meadow.

Town have just four matches remaining and are now 11 points clear of third-placed Relentless, who have played one game fewer.

“This is now the most successful team in the club’s short history and promotion is now virtually guaranteed,” said a delighted Lambert.

“If this ever-improving g roup of players continue together next season they could even take the second division by storm.”

Town are next in league action against local rivals Tenbury Colts on Saturday, April 27.

Town led 1-0 at the break against Orleton before marching to their 10th league win from 12 matches with a strong second-half display.

Town’s emphatic victory was overshadowed by a red-card in stoppage-time for Orleton’s goalkeeper who clashed with Mark Boucker.

Boucker was booked and Lambert said the incident ‘took a shine off another super performance’ from Dar ren Worthington’s men.

Henri Harvey-Smith opened the scoring in last Saturday’s derby with his third goal of the season from Ashley’s Botwood’s corner. Boucker hit the bar with a 25-yard drive and Botwood’s long-range free-kick whistled narrowly wide as Town pushed against a young Orleton side.

Town doubled their money in the 54th minute, Ian Patterson latching on to Botwood’s pass to fire in off a post.

Dean Mor ris added Town’s third when he galloped down the left and cut inside before smashing a right-foot shot into the top corner.

Chris Patton completed the rout with his eighth goal of the campaign after Boucker’s strike had been parried.

Hard-working Alex Lombardi had a shot tipped on to the crossbar.
