LUDLOW Golf Club’s professional team are leading against the captain’s side after two hard-fought matches in the popular annual series.

The professionals edged the first round 5-4 after a stirring fight-back from the captain’s team, who trailed 4-0 in the early stages.

The second round finished all-square to leave the series evenly poised.

The series of four betterball matches has been running since 2003 and captain Russell Simm feared a whitewash in the first round of this year’s showdown.

He had lost his own match against professional Russell Price before hs team won the final four matches to register a narrow loss.

Simm and partner Eddie Rowland defeated professional Price and partner Tris Clare on the 18th, but the second round finished in a draw.
