JAKE Baker rose to the occasion, scoring twice in Bucknell’s 4-1 victory over strugglers St Harmon in the Mid Wales League (South).
Ryan Bufton and Dave Jones also netted for Bucknell.
Newcastle’s goal drought continues after they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Bronllys.
They have failed to score in their last five matches although Carl Price, Scott Oxford and newcomer John Reynolds all went close in the opening 20 minutes.
The outstanding Tom Bright was denied by a fine save from the Bronllys goalkeeper in the dying minutes.
Tenbury Town continued their promotion push with a 4-0 win at Kington Town Reserves in Herefordshire League Division Three.
The experienced Ashley Botwood scored twice for Town, who are now jointtop with Bromyard FC - the highest league position in the club’s history.
“This was arguably our best league performance of the season,” said Town spokesman Carl Lambert.
Alex Bright put Town ahead after a fine run and cross from Botwood.
Botwood bagged Town’s second goal from the penalty spot and added the third after a good ball from skipper Dave Coupland.
Mark Boucker rounded off the scoring, after a through-ball from Coupland, and Chris Patton rattled the bar.
Leintwardine Colts crashed 3-0 at home to Relentless, also in Division Three.
Colts’ manager Chris Shurmer was frustrated with the match officials.
“We haven’t had the rub of the green for the past four or five matches,” he said. Chris Martin almost scored for Leintwardine.
Toby Gittens hit his 15th goal of the season but Tenbury Athletic suffered a 5-2 home defeat against Rose and Crown in Herefordshire Sunday League Division One North.
Mark Boucker scored a fine individual goal for Athletic, whose defence fell apart in the second period.
