Herefordshire trainer Venetia Williams triumphs in Forbra Gold Challenge Cup at Ludlow Races

HEREFORDSHIRE trainer Venetia Williams has triumphed in the Forbra Gold Challenge Cup at Ludlow Races.

Liam Treadwell rode the Williams-trained Ballyoliver to success last week in Ludlow’s main race of the year in memory of the 1932 Grand National winner.

Sent off at 13/2 in the ninerunner field, Ballyoliver was always close to the leaders and once Treadwell sent him for home at the fourth-last, the result was never in doubt.

Nicky Henderson was on hand to witness his Who’s Cross take the opening twomile novices hurdle in good style in the hands of jockey Andrew Tinkler. Richard Lee continues to send out winners from his Byton base and he scored with Dropzone in the concluding two-mile juvenile hurdle.

Dropzone was sent of f 11/10 favourite and, under a determined ride from Charlie Poste, the partnership battled on well to score by one and a half lengths.

Meanwhile, Downton Hall trainer Henry Daly was delighted with Quentin Collonges’ success in the William Hill Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster, who held off Mr Moss to win by half a length.
