LUDLOW Hockey Club are celebrating after clinching promotion to Division One of the Ener-G West Midlands League.

They romped to a 4-1 win at Newtown and secured the second automatic promotion spot in Division Two after third-placed Pershore failed to pick up any points.

James Pratt, Vijay Chumber, Brendon Pratt and Andrew Richards bagged the goals for Ludlow, who powered home in the second half at Newtown after being locked at 1-1 at the break.

It has been a campaign to remember for the firstteam, who host Aston University this Saturday and will be aiming to increase their goal-tally.

Goals from Graham Hutchinson goal and Tom Moseley secured a 2-2 draw for Ludlow 2nd against visiting Barlaston 2nd in 2nd XI Division Two.

Ludlow trailed 2-0 at the break and there were some fine displays from in-form goalkeeper Malachi Davenport-Smith and stand-in skipper Jack Phasey.

Ludlow 3rd fought back from 2-0 and 3-1 down against Barlaston before conceding a late goal to draw 4-4 with the touring team in the West Midlands North Fathom League.

Barney Martin gave a man-of-the-match display for Ludlow, whose goals were scored by Charlie Lyth, Joe Haywood, Tom Crump and Tyler Davis.

Barlaston levelled in the dying minutes.

Goalkeeper Zoe Morgan was in top form as Ludlow’s women picked up their first point of the season in a 0-0 draw against visiting Harborne 3rd in the Worcestershire League Division One.

Ludlow’s 10 players battled hard and showed plenty of spirit throughout.
