Mercian Premier Division Cup is our aim, says Church Stretton Town joint-manager Joe Leask

CHURCH Stretton joint-manager Joe Leask insists his side can win the Mercian League Premier Division Cup.

Leask scored in Stretton’s comfortable win over Wellington which has put his side into the semi-finals.

Leask says the cup competition could take priority for Stretton after Morda knocked them off the top of the Premier Division table.

“We have to keep picking up points if we want to finish in the top-three in the league but our realistic chance of silverware is in the league cup,” said Leask.

“Morda have gone top after they only won 3-2 against bottom side Dawley but Telford Juniors dropped points.”

Stretton travel to Ketley Bank United in the Premier Division this Saturday on the back of last weekend’s comfortable quarter-final cup success.

Goals from Matt Newton, Leask and Sean Gough sent Stretton into the last-four of the cup.

“We took our foot off the gas and Wellington equalised from a dubious penalty- kick in the first half but we kept on plugging away,” said Leask.

“Ollie Whitmore played his first proper game for us in midfield and it was a fairly comfortable afternoon.”
