Boxer Eddie 'Boom Boom' Kelly will fly flag for Tenbury Wells in Dublin's Irish boxing show

BOXER Eddie ‘Boom Boom’ Kelly will be flying the flag in Ireland next month.

Kelly will be representing an England team at a boxing show in Dublin on March 1.

He is travelling to Ireland with Martin ‘Paddy’ Brennan, his coach and Tenbury boxing club founder, next Thursday (February 28).

“The show is in the centre of Dublin and it’s going to be amazing,” said Paddy. “I am taking Eddie and I will be in the corner with him.

“There is a squad of 11 from this country with fighters from Leeds, Brighton and Stoke.

“I will be instructing Eddie and it will be great recognition for the town of Tenbury.”

He added: “We will be met and greeted by the Dublin press and media.”

Paddy says Kelly’s selection for the show had reflected his progress over the past 12 months.

“When Eddie went into the nationals, he came second and lost by one point,” said Paddy.

“They were looking for someone to fight and we have agreed to take it.

"His Irish opponent is a thorough-bred but it’s a great opportunity for Eddie.

“Eddie has won four of his 12 fights, while his opponent has won 44 of his 48 fights.

“But the way that Boom Boom has improved over the past 12 months has been incredible.

“He’s really upped his game and he’s a different fighter than he was 18 months ago.

“He’s making great progress and, because of his improvement, he has been selected for the team.”

Kelly will be fighting in the 80kg to 85kg section.

Meanwhile, Paddy is putting together his club’s own boxing show in Tenbury on Friday, May 24.

The evening, which will also include a meal and an auction, will be taking place at Tenbury High School.
