TENBURY United will be quitting West Midlands football and playing in the Herefordshire League next season.

Experienced defender Aaron Morris is taking over the management role alongside Nicky Stocker and Matt Kurkus.

Morris also revealed that United have been offered a place in Division One.

United, Tenbury Town and Tenbury Colts will all be playing in the Herefordshire Saturday League next term.

Morris said: “We had a meeting at the club and the plan is to leave the West Midlands League and play in the Herefordshire League next season.

“We hope to get back the enjoyment and the spirit at the club.

“We will have mostly shorter trips and we could make it more social by getting a minibus to away matches and stopping off on the way back.

“We have contacted the Herefordshire League and, from what I’ve been told, we have been offered a spot in Division One. George Price is the person whose job it is to speak with the Herefordshire League.

“We will soon need to notify the West Midlands League that we won’t be carrying on with them.”

Long-serving Colin Powell is stepping down from the United hot-seat at the end of this campaign after 12 seasons.

United are in West Midlands League Division Two and Powell’s family and work commitments had started to take priority.

Morris confirmed: “Me, Nicky Stocker and Matt Kurkus will be taking over the management role at the club.

“We had a meeting at the club and we’ve decided that the three of us can work together to run the side.

“There were other options discussed, but we’ve been playing at the club for a long time and the players were very happy for the three of us to do it.

“We’re all looking forward to it. Matt hasn’t played for us much this season because he’s got a young family.”

West Midlands League spokesman Neil Juggins said he had not heard about United’s plans for next season.

“We’ve not heard anything official from Tenbury United but they have got until March 31 to formally resign from the league without incurring a penalty.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Sean Baldwin saved a penalty but could not stop Tenbury United from a 2-0 defeat at Team Dudley last Saturday.

Baldwin shone in the West Midlands League Division Two match and saved the spot-kick which had been conceded by Aaron Morris’ foul.

“We didn’t really do very much going forward and the scoreline was probably about right,” added Morris.
