Ludlow boxers star in town show
1:00pm Wednesday 31st October 2012 in Sport
THREE Ludlow boxers proved a real knockout in front of a 300-strong crowd in the town.
Terry Dean-Smith, James Key and Chris Preece all triumphed for Ludlow Amateur Boxing Club.
Ludlow’s first-ever female boxer Jess Stone lost her debut contest but shared the ‘Best fight of the night’ award.
Ludlow Boxing Club spokesman Colin Woodfield declared the evening’s dinner show ‘a big success’.
“It was a very good night - and I think everyone involved enjoyed themselves,” he said. “It was a big success.”
The club are now planning for their next show which will take place in Ludlow in March 2013.
There were 12 fights on the card at Ludlow Racecourse and local favourite Dean-Smith secured a win over Stoke’s Greg Lunt.
Chadd Woodfield lost to Wolverhampton’s Kyle Salvo but James Key defeated Priory Park’s Dylan Rogers.
Debutant Preece overcame Wolverhampton’s Sean Joyce, while Stone was beaten by Boston’s Nina Bradley in a thrilling contest. Ludlow’s Tom Key lost out to Rugeley’s Ryan Hulse in the final bout of the evening. There was disappointment for Charlie Barnfield, whose bout with Joseph Shinton was called a no-contest. The doctor had to deal with a problem with a Small Heath boxer from a previous bout and couldn’t oversee Barnfield’s fight. Ashley Moule, Chris Roberts and Oli Francis were also due to fight on the Ludlow show but their bouts did not happen. Colin Woodfield added: “I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to everybody who came along and all our sponsors who are vital to us.
“Boyd Scaffolding was our main show sponsor and supplied all our boxers with their tops for the event.
“We are now looking forward to our next show in March.”
There was also good news last week for Ludlow’s Chris Roberts, who secured an excellent victory in a show in Cannock.
l Other results from the Ludlow Show: Connor Hannifin (Kings Heath) beat Keelan McColgan (Small Heath).
Luis Pagan (Telford) lost to Joe Burridge (International Boxing Academy).
Ryan Conway (Kings Heath) beat Josh Pope (International boxing Academy), Bradley Savage (Small Heath) beat J Hanrahan (Kings Heath). For more details about Ludlow Boxing Club, call Colin Woodfield on 07866 502485.
