Ludlow Castle Motor Club's Simon Mellings and Dan Middle seal fifth spot in Mercian Road Rally at Daventry

LUDLOW Castle Motor Club’s Simon Mellings and Dan Middle drove their way to fifth in the Mercian Road Rally at Daventry.

They were third overall in their Ford Puma at the petrol halt after setting a string of top-10 times in the first half.

A late push in the second half saw the crew take the lead, but a navigational error saw them slip to fifth overall.

The duo took maximum points in the AWMMC Road Rally Championship, leaving Mellings with a thirdplace in the championship going into next month’s final round.

Richard Preece and Anthony Gluyas also competed in the 145-mile event and finished 22nd overall in their standard Ford Racing edition Puma.

They had to take more care on the farmyard and rougher sections of the event due to their car and made a good start.

However, a clerical error by Gluyas at the end of the first-time card dropped them down to 22nd.

The final round of the Welsh Association Road Rally Championship and AWMMC Road Rally Championship is Ludlow Castle Motor Club’s Peak Revs Road Rally.

The events take place on November 20 and 21.
