Former Tenbury town councillor recovering after road traffic incident

ONE of Tenbury’s best known characters is recovering after being airlifted to hospital.

Margaret Austin, who is in her late 60s, was injured when she was in collision with a blue Vauxhall Corsa in the town centre.

She was seriously hurt and the road had to be closed by emergency services whilst an Air Ambulance was called and took her to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where she was put into intensive care and then the critical ward.

Her condition was later described as serious but stable.

Her injuries include a broken right arm and two broken ribs.

She also had a skin graft operation on her leg that was badly injured in the accident, and suffered severe bruising to her face and lungs.

“Margaret was very badly hurt about but seems to be making progress,” said Sarah Thompson, who visited the former town councillor at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“She was asking about people and I have had so many good wishes to pass on.

“I have told her  so many people are keen to know how she is getting on.”

Margaret served for many years as a member of Tenbury Town Council and was also a long-standing children’s crossing warden although she had to give up the job last year because of problems with her eyesight.

She is a well known character in the town and has been a campaigner for improvements to the pavements in Tenbury.

Margaret  is married and lives in the town with her husband Bill.
