TENBURY Applefest was plagued by a rather pleasant problem over the weekend – too many visitors. An overwhelming response from fruit lovers travelling from as far as London, Cornwall and the North of England gave stewards trying to park them a bit of a headache, but a glorious day of sunshine put paid to any serious concerns. Organiser Bernard Morgan said: “That was the only negative of the day – otherwise we had a lot of support from local people and everybody I spoke to on the stands was thrilled at being there.” Complaints were made, however, by some festival-goers who faced heavy traffic and in the end turned back – like Walsall resident Graham Taylor who described it as “chaos” in a letter to the Advertiser even though, he said, “numerous” stewards were to hand. Mr Morgan said an apology had been made to Mr Taylor and that steps to improve things next year were already being discussed. Parking problems aside, visitors enjoyed a range of attractions while more than 100 exhibitors made the most of a new “green room” introduced for the first time to provide them with refreshments. Local band Hot Climate then rounded off the day with an hour-long set.
