A TENBURY man is just a few days from his 100th birthday.

All being well Tenbury will gain another centenarian on Monday (November 21).

Canon Denis Boyling reaches that birthday after living in Tenbury for nearly 35 years.

He and his wife Margaret moved to the town and settled in Tenbury when he retired as a Canon of Wakefield Cathedral in 1981.

For many years he supported St Mary’s church and the Tenbury Team Ministry, taking services and helping during vacancies among the clergy there.

Canon Boyling had served in London, Sheffield and Huddersfield as well as Wakefield during his ministry.

But he has lived in Tenbury longer than anywhere else in his life.

“Margaret and I have made many friends in the town over the years and we have had a wonderful life here,” he said.

He will be celebrating a day early, on Sunday so he can share worship with the congregation of St Mary’s and then offer them a glass of something with cake.
