FOUR years ago a few members of the Tenbury Branch of the Royal British Legion were heard joining in a “sing-along” of popular military songs at the Poppy Concert at St Mary’s Church in the town.

The branch chairman, Roy Routledge thought it would be a good idea to form a branch choir.

Now with the professional guidance of Roger Champkin, and no little hard work, the choir has proved a huge success.

They have sung at each of the succeeding poppy concerts at The Regal alongside a Military Wives’ Choir and the Midland Fellowship Brass Band.

There have been numerous requests for their services at local functions and they have proved such a success that they have now made a CD which it is hoped will be available at the Poppy Concert in October.

The Tenbury Wells and District Branch of the Royal British Legion meets at 7.30pm on the third Wednesday of each Month at The Fountain Inn, Oldwood Road. New Members are always welcome and there is no requirement to have served in the Armed Forces.

Meetings are usually followed by a guest speaker. The August meeting will hear a presentation by Simon Jarman MBE on The Battle of the Somme.
