VISITORS to Tenbury Show on Saturday (August 6) will have it in their hands to decide if a 77-year-old man is for the high jump.

John Driver, who heads Tenbury Transport Trust, had lined himself up for a tandem parachute jump to raise money for the charity.

But when he told his wife Ann (63) she was less than impressed and said ‘no'.

“I want to do it but Ann will not have it and told me that throwing himself from an aircraft from several thousand feet was not something a 77-year-old man should be doing,” said John Driver.

In the sake of domestic harmony the couple has reached a compromise.

They have turned things on its head and if more than £500 is raised for the Transport Trust John will keep his feet on the ground but if not he will take a dive.

“It is a risk,” said John Driver.

“Some people may decide that they want to see me jump and that would be okay with me because I was looking forward to it. But I have to take into account how my wife feels so if we raise £500 for me not to jump that will be fine.”

People at Tenbury Show who want to sponsor John not to jump can make their pledge at the event. The Tenbury Transport Trust can be found on stand two.

Sponsorship pledges can also be made at the trust’s offices in Teme Street.
