A WOMAN from Eastham who was widowed and left with a six-month-old baby two weeks before Christmas has spoken about how the love and kindness of villagers and people from Tenbury is helping her cope.

Now a new way has been found to remember well-known Tenbury businessman Steve ‘Nudge’ Webb, who died when he fell through a roof, 16 days before what would have been his first Christmas with his baby daughter.

Steve, aged 43, was from a well-known Tenbury family and for six years ran Swan cabs in the town.

His greatest ambition was to be a dad and his dream came true with the birth of baby Louisa in May 2015 but a tragic accident at work meant their time together was all too short.

But his widow Nicky has pledged that her daughter will grow up surrounded by a house full of memories of her dad.

“He was the proudest dad in the world and as Louisa grows up I will show her the things around the house that her dad did,” said Nicky, who added that the love and support from people in the village and Tenbury has been golden.

This continues as a group of four of Steve’s best friends will be holding a tribute night of music at venues throughout Tenbury on Saturday, July 16.

Phil Wormington, aged 61, John Potter, 56 and Shaun O’Toole, 38, will play music in memory of Steve starting at The Penbrook and moving on to The Kings Head and Royal Oak before finishing at The Bridge.

They will be joined by another DJ, Jason King, who is now working for a commercial radio station in the south of England but who will return to Tenbury to support the charity evening.

“It will be a night of nostalgia and a way to remember ‘Nudge’ in a happy way playing the music that he loved and that we all enjoyed together,” said Phil Wormington, who is the village postman in Eastham.

He said described Steve as one of the ‘nicest men you could ever meet’ and said that the nickname ‘Nudge’ came from his skills on pinball and other gaming machines.

“We first met all those years ago when the Webb family used to own the old ‘Swan’ and cellar bar in Tenbury,” said Phil Wormington who used to DJ at the venue.

Tickets for the evening are £10 and can be obtained from Mary Stone Properties in Market Street. Any money raised will go into a fund for little Louisa.

Nicky is having great success with her own fundraising for the Midlands Air Ambulance and since January has raised more than £1,500.

She hopes that people will go on to the Air Ambulance website and visit the Steve Webb page that she has created and make a donation.

Nicky said that although they were unable to save Steve, the Air Ambulance does a wonderful job especially in rural areas.

“The people of Eastham have also been wonderful and I have had people I do not know knocking on the door offering support,” said Nicky.

“We had an ambition to perhaps move away and take on a pub but now I shall be staying in Eastham so Louisa can grow up surrounded by memories of her dad,” added Nicky.

“She will go to Lindridge School and we have woods and beautiful countryside so why would we move away.”
