IT was the hottest and driest summer on record.

A Minister for Drought was appointed and in different parts of the country villages that had disappeared beneath the water to create reservoirs came back into view.

It was also the year when a cohort of students were preparing to leave Tenbury High School.

Now, 40 years on, three of them are turning to the ‘Advertiser’ for help.

The three former Tenbury School classmates Derek James, Cliff Slade and Shaun Drinkwater are calling up former pupils in the class of ‘76’ for a get-together to mark the 40th anniversary of leaving the then Tenbury Secondary Modern School.

They are planning a get together at Penlu Sports Club on Saturday, June 11 at 6pm and are urging former pupils to get in touch and join them to reminisce the night away.

Derek James, who is organising the event, said they have already been in contact with many past class friends but some are proving difficult to track down despite seeking assistance from national Penal establishments!

Cliff Slade is keen for the get-together this year as his comb-over is proving very difficult to maintain into the future and Shaun Drinkwater remembers that 1976 was infamous for its heat-wave and one of the hottest summers ever recorded when the sun naturally bleached his hair.

But he admits that he now needs he now needs a little bit of artificial assistance to keep his locks blond!

Former teachers have also been contacted and are also keen to review the former students’ life progress! Shaun and Cliff are teaming up to provide some live music.

All three said the combination of music, food and, of course, the life-long bond of spending all their school years together, makes for a great evening.

Derek can be contacted on 07790 286 305 or Shaun on 07456 171570.
