THE man behind ‘the Clock House’, one of the iconic Tenbury businesses, has called time.
Phil Gibbs has retired from the butchers and deli after 34 years.
“It is the people and the banter with customers that I will miss most but there comes a time when you have to stop,” said Phil.
He has been in the butchery trade all his life and started at Baxters Butchers in Teme Street in August 1965.
But it was in 1982 that he decided to set up his own business in Market Street.
“Business has been good but we were hit very badly by the big flood when we had to close for 21 weeks and the recovery took a long time,” said Phil who lives in Eastham and intends to stay in the area.
His shop will not be closed for long and will re-open in the near future as a deli but without the butcher’s side of the business
