A D-DAY veteran with an incredible story to tell was the star guest of Tenbury Royal British Legion.

Iain Macdonald, who is currently living in Cheshire, is a World War II veteran who saw action on D Day, June 6, 1944.

He was a 20-year-old Royal Navy Sub Lieutenant on a motor launch minesweeping the invasion beaches, prior to and during the main Normandy landings.

Surviving Veterans seeing action on that momentous day are being awarded France’s highest Military Honour, "La Legion D’Honneur.”

Iain was able to show the medal and was warmly congratulated on his award.

Following the meeting, a talk was given by Ria Baxter from the Kyrebrook Day care Centre on ‘Living with Dementia'.

Next month’s speaker will be Squadron Leader Richard Jeavons, who will be speaking about his service with the Royal Air Force.

It is hoped that a visit will soon be arranged to The Battle Back Centre at Lilleshall, where our wounded and injured Service personnel are being rehabilitated, in order that they may resume their military careers.

The Tenbury Branch meets on the third Wednesday of each month at The Fountain Inn at 7.30pm and welcomes new members.

There is no requirement to have served in the Armed Forces.
