THE accolades keep coming for a fitness, rehabilitation and training centre near Tenbury.

Just a few months after receiving the Queen’s award for voluntary service The Bluestone Centre has been recognised at the West Midlands Social Enterprise Awards.

Social Enterprises are businesses similar to charities but run as a business with a social and community purpose.

The Bluestone Centre at Bleathwood run by Paddy Brennan won the Social Enterprise People Award that is given to organisations that contribute to the community.

But not content with winning an award The Bluestone Centre also sponsored another category that recognised was won by a social enterprise that was started by one person and now employs 50 people in a training business.

The awards were presented at the University of Birmingham.

Bluestone Centre is still home to the Tenbury Boxing Club but now also offers physical fitness training, physiotherapy, works with young people who need a different approach to a traditional classroom environment and is involved with a young offender programme.

It is also linked to a scheme that provides training to prisoners to help them find work when released and so cut the level or reoffending.
