THOUSANDS of people will pour into Tenbury on Saturday (October 3) to pay homage to the Apple.

The fruit still plays a major role in the economy of the town and the Teme Valley and is celebrated every year with the Apple Fest that takes place on The Burgage.

More than 300 different varieties of apples will be on display and there will be many displays based around the fruit including apple-pie and cider-making competitions. People will be able to bring along their own apples and have them pressed into juice.

Experts from the Marches Apple Network will be available to try to identify examples of some of the less well-known types of apples.

There will also be a programme of family activities and trade stands for people that want to shop.

Entertainment will include Morris Dancing, music from the Teme Valley Band and Punch and Judy.

Children from local primary schools will be singing. There will also be a chance for children to have their faces painted.

Visitors will have the chance to watch a blacksmiths display, take part in a mini alpaca trek and enjoy a display of vintage cars from an MG Club.

The Apple Fest starts at 10am and admission is £2.50 with children under the age of 16 free.
