THE work on the improvements to Tenbury Town Centre is set to continue into the autumn.

Members of Tenbury Town Council are unhappy at the progress to the scheme that started in January and should have been completed by the end of March.

“Let’s say that it has not gone as well as would have been hoped,” said the Mayor of Tenbury Mark Willis.

Another town councillor Alan Eachus, a former member of Tenbury Civic Society and a landscape architect, said that he was unhappy about the quality of some of the work and the time that had been taken.

Ken Pollock, who represents Tenbury on Worcestershire County Council, has said that while there have been problems he believes that people will be pleased with the improvements to the town.

The project that is being undertaken by contractors working for Worcestershire County Council was initially delayed because of problems getting the blue bricks that are being used on some of the footpaths.

In the early stages there were complaints from traders in the town about loss of business and some people living in Tenbury were also unhappy at being disturbed when the work took place overnight.

A bollard at the corner by The Crow pub also caused problems to tractors and large vehicles trying to negotiate a tight turn.

Ken Pollock said that in some cases it had not been possible to use the materials as had originally been planned.

One of the issues that also needed to be looked at was the use of red on the crossing places that had not worked as had been intended.
