A TEAM from Tenbury proved to be unbeatable in the National Young Farmers Competition for the tug of war at Tenbury Show.

The woman's team from Tenbury Wells Young Farmer Club proved to be too strong for all the other competitors beating off the challenges of teams from all around the country.

The team, which was representing Worcestershire, beat their opposition from Penistone in Yorkshire in the final to be named champions of the national contest.

"We were very pleased to win and had been training since January twice a week," said team member Nicola Yarnold.

"On top of that we have been running and swimming."

At the end of last month the team won the Welsh Championship and their success continued in this national contest.

"We had to pull against every team at the show and we won every end," said Nicola, who is the team's anchor.

"We have not lost an end in the Young Farmers competitions throughout this year."

The team has been training with Welsh team Pentre Boys to give them a competitive edge.

"We train with them and they have really helped us along the way," said Nicola. "We have worked so hard as a team and we got on so well."
