HOWARD Llewelyn was a child when the First World War started.
He has just celebrated his 104th birthday at Haresbrook Park in Tenbury.
It has been a remarkable life for the man from Worcester who can still remember delivering candles and paraffin on a horse and cart.
This was the first job for a man who would later work for the Midland Red bus company where he met his wife Daisy.
The couple got married in 1941 before Harold was posted to north Africa where he was a mechanic in the tank regiment.
During this time he took pilgrimages to both Bethlehem and Jerusalem.
Returning to the UK he did a number of different jobs. He has family in Cyprus who visit him in Tenbury.
Howard moved to Haresbrook Park in 2012.
“He is the oldest resident we have and is a remarkable man who takes part in all of the activities,” said Dawn Clifford, activities co-ordinator.
Harold's birthday was made extra special by a performance from the choir of the Tenbury branch of the Royal British Legion and a visit from the town's mayor.
