LIFE has come full circle for Tenbury’s monthly local produce market.

The Saturday market is returning to ‘The Royal Oak’ where it started 18 months ago.

When it started in the summer of 2013 the market met just once at the pub citing restrictions on what could be sold as the reason for moving on.

However, it now appears that these have been resolved as the market gets set to return to the Royal Oak on Saturday (January 17).

After the Royal Oak first time around the market moved to Palmers Meadow adjacent to the Pump Rooms where it was based for a year.

Last summer it moved to Teme Street with stall holders occupying part of the pavement and parking bays.

But one of the organisers Carole Clayton says that there were concerns about safety.

“The road is wide enough but Tenbury is very busy on Saturday mornings and safety is our top priority,” she said.

“As the market enters a new phase of development the organisers would like to extend their thanks for the support they have received over the past months from the retailers in the Town and also to the town and district councillors for their assistance in trialling different venues.”

The market has a core of up to 10 traders with more businesses joining them at busy times of the year.

Ms Clayton said that the Royal Oak has space for traders inside and outside and provides scope for expansion.

The market is designed not just to enable stall holders to sell but also to encourage more people to shop in the town.

“There is an increase in footfall when the market is in town,” said Mervyn Hatton of Hatton Cycles.

The market is held regularly on the third Saturday of the month from 9am until 2p.m.
