Pop into this Tenbury pub for your poppy
8:00am Friday 2nd November 2012 in Tenbury Wells
A POPPY shop in Tenbury has been opened in a pub.
It had been planned to have the Remembrance poppy shop in empty premises in the town but when this became unavailable the Royal Oak in Market Street came to the rescue.
Following a successful concert in St Mary's Parish Church last Saturday to launch the 2012 Poppy Appeal, the shop opened this week.
This year is the 90th Anniversary of the Tenbury Wells and District branch of the Royal British Legion and for almost all of that time its headquarters have been based at the first floor of the Royal Oak in M a r k e t Street.
S i n c e t h e i r a r r iv a l n e w l i c e n s - e e s Deborah and Andy B u r g e s s have made the branch members welcome and generously given the Royal British Legion the use of their ground floor café for the fortnight as a poppy shop.
House to house poppy sales have commenced and street selling will begin on Saturday.
Most of the shops in the town are selling poppies.
In addition to the poppy shop members of the RBL Tenbury Wells Branch will be running tombola on the Royal Oak forecourt on the next two Saturdays.
The Remembrance Parade on Sunday, November 11 will assemble at the old Auction Yard at 10am and will march off, led by the Tenbury Town Band, at 10.15am
