Thieves take metal from school roof
LUDLOW Infants School was hit for the second time this year after thieves stole metal from the school's roof on April 25 or 26 (Friday or Saturday).
Thieves previously targeted the Sandpits Road school in February.
This is the latest in a string of incidents across the county which has prompted police to launch Project Livewire, West Mercia Constabulary's initiative to tackle metal theft.
Around 90 arrests have been made since the campaign was launched last summer.
Lead from roofs, copper wiring and even garden furniture have been targeted at locations throughout the region including Telford, Malvern, Oswestry and Worcester.
Acting Detective Inspector Mark Stringer, from West Mercia Constabulary's Force Intelligence Bureau, said: "Metal thefts only account for a very small portion of total crime for the force. However, it is a problem which is on the rise and a large theft from a company premises could put them out of business and mean the loss of jobs and livelihoods."
Anyone with information on metal theft should call West Mercia Constabulary on 08457 444888 and ask for the relevant police station.
