FORMER England World Cup footballers Steve Bull and Steve Hodge will be the special guests at a prostate cancer testing event at Worcester Racecourse.

Father-of-two Robert North told the Worcester News last month about how a similar chance screening on a night out led to an aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis.

The 54-year-old went along to the event at Sixways Stadium in 2016, which included taking a blood sample to test for PSA levels.

“Without going to that cancer screening I wouldn’t be here today,” he said. “It basically saved my life.

“I went in and put my £20 in the bucket, signed in and gave a bit of blood and then went and stood and drank and smoked with my mates,” Mr North said.

“Two weeks after I got a ‘red’ letter saying that there was something wrong with my blood and PSA levels were high.

“It ended up with me going to the hospital and finding out that I had stage three stroke stage four aggressive cancer that had broken out into my lymph system.”

The PSA testing event, to be held on June 18 from 5pm, is being co-hosted by Worcestershire Ambassadors and Worcestershire Advance, in association with Worcestershire Prostate Awareness Group.

It will include full coverage of England’s opening World Cup group game against Tunisia.
