WORK is well underway on a new pavilion at Gheluvelt Park.

The new pavilion, housing a snack kiosk and toilets, as well as a community room, is being built next to the Splashpad, and is expected to open to the public next month.

The old Sons of Rest pavilion, which dated back to the 1950s, was demolished in February when work began on the replacement.

The project is being managed on Worcester City Council’s behalf by Place Partnership Ltd, who appointed contractor Abbey and Lyndon to carry out the work.

The new structure will include a kiosk for the selling of takeaway hot food, snacks and drinks.

The new multi-use community room with have an adjoining kitchen and toilet, with baby-changing facilities, and five individual unisex toilets, including a disabled one.

The Sons of Rest, formed in Birmingham in 1927, promotes social and leisure activities for men and women over the age of 60 who live in the area.
