EXTRA officers will be on patrol over the festive period to help keep Redditch residents safe.

The move is part of West Mercia Police’s Operation Christmas Presence, which sees the police teaming up with Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

People will see an increase in police patrols of the town centre, its car parks and the rail and bus station.

Police will use a mixture of uniformed and plain-clothes officers, along with PCSOs.

PC Vicki Jones, who is leading this year’s policing operation, said: "Redditch is a fantastic place and we always see an increase in the amount of people visiting at this time of year. We will be working closely with transport agencies and British Transport Police to deter any potential criminals from travelling to Redditch.

"The increase in the number of officers around the town centre is not just about tackling crime but also we want to reassure the public that we’re there when they need us most."

On Saturday, December 16 police will have a stand at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre to speak with shoppers and provide useful advice and guidance.
