KIDDERMINSTER’S Paralympic hero Claire Cashmore MBE has backed a charity’s work to support Disability Awareness Week.

Crackerjacks Children’s Trust will be hosting a series of events across Wyre Forest during the week which takes place between Saturday, May 19 and Saturday May 26.

And gold-medal winning Claire, who is also a patron of the Kidderminster-based charity that supports children with disabilities praised what they were doing next week.

She said: “I am so impressed with all the efforts of the trust and the hosting of their first Disability Awareness Week will bring to the forefront those children who suffer with a disability and the support they and their families need.”

Crackerjacks Disability Awareness week will ‘kick off’ at Stourport Swifts Stadium on May 19 at 10am with the Our Way Disability Football Teams playing five-a–side tournaments and an exhibition match.

The FA registered teams include under 16’s, a newly formed Ladies Team and over 16’s who are all supporting the Crackerjacks Disability Awareness Week.

Several nurseries and schools also taking part during the week with the Best Foot Forward Campaign including King Charles High School who are hosting a week of activities highlighting disability awareness.

Schools of performing arts are playing the game of Splat, pubs and cafes are showing their support with donation buckets and collections while Young Gloves Karate will be hosting ‘Blind Karate’ though all their week of classes.
