KIND karate students from a Wyre Forest club helped raise thousands for a charity that supports disabled children.

Young Gloves Karate held an inter-club event at King Charles School in Kidderminster which saw more than 150 children compete in aid of High Rider.

High Rider, which is based in Hartlebury and helps disabled children experience the benefits of horse riding, is Young Gloves’ chosen cause for the year.

And their efforts at the charity event on November 26 has ensured around £3,000 has been raised.

Children as young as five took part in the competition with trophies given to those finishing in the top four of various categories of Kumite and Kara. Everyone who took part was presented with a medal.

The day also saw various other fund raising activities such as raffle, tombola photography.

Sensei Justin Thomas said: “Once again Young Gloves Karate has made me very proud. The way members come together to support each other and the various charities is truly remarkable.

“Not only do I have to thank the students but all the parents for support, as well as many others who worked tirelessly on the day giving their time and efforts for such a good cause.

“This is a remarkable club and one that never stops amazing be. I'm very fortunate to be amongst such incredible caring people."

Over the years, the club – which holds classes in Kidderminster, Stourport and Stourbridge - has raised more than £53,000 for a variety of good causes.

This year was also a successful one on the mats as they celebrated 10 new black belt students and brought home a clutch of medals in the All Styles Karate League 2017.
